Nellis Air Force Base, situated in the northeastern part of Las Vegas, Nevada, serves as a pivotal center for advanced combat training and operational testing within the U.S. Air Force. Established in 1941 as the Las Vegas Army Air Field, it was renamed on May 1, 1950, in honor of First Lieutenant William H. Nellis, a P-47 pilot from Las Vegas who was killed near Bastogne, Belgium, during the Battle of the Bulge. The base hosts the United States Air Force Warfare Center, which oversees various units, including the 57th Wing and the Nevada Test and Training Range, ensuring that aircrews receive comprehensive training in tactics, techniques, and procedures. Nellis AFB is also renowned for conducting Red Flag exercises, providing realistic combat training scenarios for U.S. and allied forces.

Creech Air Force Base

Location & Mission

Creech Air Force Base, located in Nevada, serves as the primary operating base for the 432d Wing and 432d Air Expeditionary Wing. With a workforce of approximately 3,000 personnel, the base is integral to global remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) operations, conducting continuous overseas contingency missions against global terrorism. Units such as the British Royal Air Force's No. 39 Squadron, the 556th Test and Evaluation Squadron, the Nevada Air National Guard's 232d Operations Squadron, and the Air Force Reserve's 726th Operations Group also operate from Creech AFB, highlighting its significance in modern military aviation.

There is no on-base housing at Creech, so most personnel live in Northwest Las Vegas, Summerlin, Skye Canyon or Centennial Hills.
Commuting: A shuttle system operates between Nellis AFB and Creech AFB for those stationed at Creech but living closer to the city.
Homebuying Options: Many military families use their VA benefits to purchase homes in master-planned communities that offer safety, amenities, and proximity to the base.
